NEW STUDIES 1
The Kyolic Garlic & Aerobic Fitness Trial
Arterial stiffness is a cardiovascular risk factor, which increases naturally with age. Kyolic garlic has been shown to improve the flexibility of arteries, and slows down blood flow, which may improve oxygen uptake, associated with aerobic fitness.

Monitoring treatment effect of photo-dynamic therapy using a lightbed (Light-bed-PDT) in cancer patients by Circulating Tumour Cell (CTC) analysis
Background
Prevalence of cancer diagnosis is high and attributable to 30% of all deaths in Australia. There is a need for better treatment combined with reliable assessments of treatment effectiveness. This pilot intervention study aims to assess the treatment effectiveness and safety of Light-bed-PDT for patients with cancer using Circulating Tumour Cell (CTC) specimen analyses.
What is Photodynamic Therapy (PDT)
PDT consists of two steps, the oral administration of a chlorophyll-based algal-derived food-grade liquid photosensitiser (Step 1), followed by LED light therapy the next day (Step 2). The photosensitiser has been shown to concentrate in cancer cells, and is activated by light from Light Emitting Diodes (LED) inducing cancer cell death, while also stimulating the immune system.

NIIM Director of Research presents at Symposium
On Saturday 26 March, Associate Professor Karin Ried – Director of Research at NIIM, presented at the 12th Urology in General Practice Symposium. Held at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre, the Symposium was attended by a delegation of 350 General Practitioners with an interest in urology.
NIIM Clinic – AGPAL Accreditation
The NIIM Clinic has applied for accreditation with Australian General Practice Accreditation Limited (AGPAL). On 5 May, APGAL surveyors attended NIIM Clinic to undertake the first survey for accreditation.
Rife Frequency Study
This study uses Electro-Magnetic-Frequency Therapy (EMF), for the treatment of cancer and/or pathogens, and Circulating Tumour Cell (CTC) blood testing to assess EMF treatment effectiveness.
The Cognitive Preservation Study
This study aims to analyse the effect of Red Light Therapy, with or without additional Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, on cognition and brain health in people with mild and moderate cognitive impairment.
The Gluco-Metabolism Study
12-week randomised placebo-controlled trial investigating the tolerability and effectiveness of the Nutrition Care Gluco-Metabolism herbal Formula on blood glucose levels.
